Fondi SRI e COVID-19: eticità e performance possono coesistere?

Abstract

Da anni il dibattito sugli investimenti socialmente responsabili divide chi ritiene che investire socially responsible significhi rinunciare ad una parte di profitto per motivi etici e da chi crede che dietro a tali investimenti ci sia molto di più.

Numerosi sono gli studi accademici che, avendo comparato le performance degli investimenti “socialmente responsabili” con quelli “non socialmente responsabili”, hanno dimostrato come non ci sia alcuna rilevante differenza nelle performance finanziarie tra le due categorie di investimenti, né tantomeno una differenza in merito al rischio specifico dei titoli appartenenti alle due categorie.

In questo articolo, l’autore, dopo aver ripercorso i principali studi a favore degli investimenti etici, procede ad indagare il comportamento delle performance dei fondi SRI durante la recente turbolenza nei mercati finanziari dovuta alle misure di contenimento dell’epidemia da COVID-19.

Tramite l’analisi degli indici MSCI ACWI e MSCI ACWI SRI si giunge alla conclusione che l’universo dei prodotti SRI ha reagito meglio alla pandemia rispetto ai prodotti convenzionali, confermando la tesi secondo la quale il fattore etico non è un onere aggiuntivo per l’investitore, ma un vantaggio competitivo.
